Title: Looking for order in chaos
Abstract: My plan is to talk about simple examples of chaotic dynamics, developing the idea that simple equations and transformations lead to complicated dynamics, particularly for individual trajectories. However, one can still find structure and order by looking at the behaviour of typical orbits. Moreover, one can often quantify the level of complexity and chaos via simple numerical quantities (e.g., Lyapunov exponents, dimension, etc.). However, this then leads to a new problem: How to estimate these useful values for given systems?
